Organisers of the Marlborough 150 Fun Ride on Nov 2 celebrating Marlborough’s anniversary have announced an optional course change. Organiser and local Multisport identity Rene de Ruiter said ‘the whole purpose of the event is to get people out riding and having a bit of fun and taking in beautiful Marlborough’.

The Tuamarina Track had been ridden on occasion and was found to be adequate for cycling with the gravel stretch only being 3.5km of the entire ride but de Ruiter said, ‘scenic as the Tuamarina track is we felt that safety has to be the main concern and we are therefore suggesting people take Rapaura Road if they are not comfortable with the Track’. The decision was reinforced after the Cuddon weekend race had a number of riders fall and again on Wednesday night when one of the committee for the Marlborough 150 ride suffered a nasty fall in a time trial race in dry conditions. De Ruiter said, ‘we have had a lot of positive feed back from entrants to date and sponsors have offered some wonderful spot prizes, we now just want a nice, safe, fun event’.
