Blenheim Physiotherapy Bike HQ Tri/Du Series – Race 2

13 11 2009

A strong field is again expected to contest round 2 of the Blenheim Physiotherapy-Bike HQ summer Multisport series on Sunday. There are various course options, including a duathlon and triathlon, the latter contested over a 750 m swim at the Marlborough Aquatic Centre, a 20 km cycle from near Marlborough Lines Stadium out around Fairhall and return and a run around a town circuit finishing at paddy Barry’s carpark. With the Marlborough Multisports Club Champion this year being decided on the basis of points earned in each race current leaders cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

For athletes such as Phil Binnie, Rachel Monk, Steve Smith, Leonie van den Bergh and Sharon de Castro it will be their last hit out before they take to the cold waters of Lake Hood and compete in the South Island Half Ironman champs at Ashburton on 28 November. For Roger Golding it will be a part of a long build up to his participation in the Wanaka Challenge – an Ironman distance event in January. The long duathlon is contested over a 2.5km run, 20 km cycle, 5 km run course. Despite battling a recent ankle injury Sharon Kent is again expected to figure prominently in this race.

Registration is at 8.30 am at Paddy Barry’s carpark with the race briefing starting at 8.45 am and racing gets underway at 9.00.
