Swim, Kayak, Cycle, Run…

2 04 2010

… Sunday’s Marlborough Quadrathon has got it all.

Sponsored this year by Reidie Cycles, this iconic event could well be New Zealand’s longest running multisport event. It begins with a 750m swim in Waikawa Bay (3 sides of a rectangle). You’ll have to navigate around a few moored boats, but it’s a great place to swim. The Kayak then heads around the “Snout” and through to Picton, a distance of 7.6km (GPS measured). This year the 29 km cycle starts as usual on the Picton foreshore, out through the carpark and heads to Rarangi, turning off SH1 at Tuamarina.

Off the bike at Rarangi, and it’s (immediately) up hill for the first 2km.  A short stretch of sealed road at the top of the road joins the track, and leads you down to the Whites Bay Surf Club. The track exits at the surf club car park. Turn around here and head straight back up the hill. Once back down to Rarangi, you’ll have a km out and back run to the fire station. A 7Km run. The Quadrathon run has always been challenging, previously taking in the Wither Hills, and this year will be no exception.

The Quadrathon is ideally suited to teams as each discipline is set a “doable” distance. Get together your work mates, school mates, or actual mates and enter a team.
