Twin Rivers kayak race

19 09 2010

Kayakers from Marlborough, Nelson and Christchurch took part in the  annual Twin Rivers kayak race today.

This 21km race takes in two of Marlborough’s best kayaking assets – the Wairau and Opawa rivers.

Starting from the Wairau Rowing Club, the race goes downstream for aproximately 5km before a 15km slog upstream on the Opawa, to finish in the Beavertown ampitheatre in the middle of Blenheim.

Strong norwest winds on the Opawa made conditions difficult, and times slower than previous years. Ageless Nelson paddler, Andrew Martin, took the win by 8 seconds from Simon Trotter.

Thanks to Len from Topsport Kayaks for his support of this race and for providing a $600 paddle as a spot prize.
