Here’s one for the swimmers

23 02 2012

Each year Lochmara Lodge host a swimming event across Lochmara Bay as part of their annual fun festival.   It is a 750m swim from across Lochmara Bay back into Lochmara.  The lodge provide transport across the bay and coordinate boat support for swimmers participating for safety.   It is a great training swim, or just for fun.

The winner gets their name on the shield (on display in the café), and the prize for the top male and top female home is a night for two at the Lodge!  It’s open to age 16 and over.   This year the event is on Saturday 10 March at 11.30am.   Entry is free, and if you don’t have your own transport they are doing return transport from Picton for $20pp, the proceeds of which go to the Marlborough Sounds Wildlife Recovery Trust.   Of course, it is always possible to kayak in/out, or to bike or run in and/or out on the Queen Charlotte Track – they are  are about 21km from Anakiwa and you can bike all of it – MTB not road obviously.

There are lots of other things happening for adults and kids as part of the Fun Festival, including live music all day, facepainting, storytelling and treasure hunts for kids, wine tasting, live performances and the tug of war competition at 3pm, plus all the regular things that Lochmara offers – the walking tracks, art, wildlife, café, and so on, so it is family affair and participants could make a day of it.
