Today was the 6th running of the Michael Huntley Memorial Triathlon. The event also doubles as the  Club champs .  Once an early fog had lifted from Anakiwa, everyone was treated to a warm, still day.

In the long triathlon (1500 swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) Jeremy McKenzie was a firm favourite but had to be content with being 4th out of the water. Mark Grammer had lead the way on this leg with a speedy 20.40 for the 1.5 km swim. The bike course consisted of two laps and Mckenzie gradually reeled in all those in front of him to record the fastest bike leg of the day with a 1.00.45 for the 40 km.  McKenzie was to show everyone a clean pair of heels once he got on to his favoured run leg to again record the fastest time on the day with a time of 21.51 to finish the the event with an overall time of 1.46.26. Shepherd held his place to finish second with Grammer less than 30 seconds back in third.

In the medium Women’s triathlon the race was a lot tighter. Carolyn Squance had been 4th out of the water but passed everyone in front of her on the bike and maintained her lead to win in a time of 1.06.21 with promising local Jess Barnes coming second and Natasha Ford third. In the medium Women’s Duathlon (2.5/20/5) Francesca Crossley had her first win in a time of 1.23.12 with Christine Dew second while in the men’s race over the same distance Local Franco Medina prevented the Squance family from recording three firsts on the day by comfortably winning this race in a time of 59.50.
