Picton Half Ironman 2012

29 10 2012

If you are preparing for Challenge Wanaka or Taupo Ironman, or you just want a solid day out, then this is for you.

Not strictly an “organised” event, in that there is no entry form (or fee) and you participate at your own risk (of getting competely knackered).

The gun will go off  at 8.30am on December 16th.

Swim. Out and back towards Bob’s Bay from the Queen Charlotte Yacht Club. Approx 2km. Wear a wetsuit. It is cold.

Bike.  Anticlockwise course around the “Groves”, taking in Queen Charlotte Drive (Hilly, Scenic and Awesome), Havelock (Coke available at petrol station) and Rapaura Road (long, windy and boring). Distance is around 96km.

Run. 3 laps taking in the Picton-Waikawa Track (rolling off-road) and Waikawa Road back to Picton (Footpath). 3 times over the Marina Bridge. 20ish km.

Transition. You will manage this yourself from your car. Somebody will be available too look after your keys if required. Gold coin donation to the key holder.

Timing. Wear a watch. If you want splits, press the lap button at each transition.

Rules. No drafting, no walking, no complaining, no outside assistance. There will be no marshalls, so obey the road rules and know where the course goes beforehand.

Teams. If you must.

Prizes. Of course not. If you need spot prizes to be involved in this, you probably need another event. But you will have the satisfaction of completing the inaugural Picton Half.
