Ryan Lock strides out in the duathlon section of the Michael Huntley Memorial
The Michael Huntley Memorial Triathlon and Duathlon is taking place on 1 April at Anakiwa. The race doubles as the Marlborough Triathlon & Multisport Club Champs and will be run over Olympic level distances (other options are also available). There will be a new champ this year as last year’s overall winner, Cory Mackay, is a non-starter in 2012.
The likely favourite for the Men’s race will be Jeremy McKenzie who has proven to be unbeatable in local races and is the current National Duathlon champ in his age group. He also finished 6th in the Coast to Coast and recently qualified for the Triathlon World Champs with a 4th place finish in Wellington. In the Women’s race last year’s winner Almuth Waechter is again the favourite. She recently won the Women’s section of the Quadrathon on the back of scant training in the kayak. As a proven runner and former New Zealand representative she will be hard to beat. Long course distances are as follows:
Triathlon: swim 1500m, bike 40k, run 10k
Duathlon: run 5k, bike 40k, run 10k
Other race options are shown below.
